We're going to talk about gearbox motor coupling parts that will make our shaft alignment process much more efficient and much more easier. The goal and purpose of these gearbox motor coupling parts is to control or get rid of any unintended movement that might occur during the alignment process.
The first part to gearbox motor coupling parts is to rough align the machine shafts. I'm going to do that with a straight edge. I've got a 50 thousandths shim here. I've got my straight edge on top of the pump.
And that 50 thousandth shim drags just a little bit, so I'm going to loosen all four bolts and put 50 mil shims under all four feet. I'll check again with the straight edge, and we can see that is much closer. Also check the horizontal. There we go, no offset. It's been adjusted both vertically and horizontally so our rough alignment is complete.
The next gearbox motor coupling parts focuses on eliminating obvious soft foot. Obvious soft foot is when all four feet are not sitting in a common plane. If soft foot remains, then every time you loosen and tighten the bolts the moveable machine will come to rest at a different place, making it difficult to accurately measure and correct misalignment.
